[Tuesday Scoop] Choosing the Correct Board
Our Baking market is filled with products to suit our budget and requirements, and cake boards being one of the essential tools we need to spend some time understanding in detail different types of boards available. Cake Boards – Cardboard, Cake Board – Mdf, Drum Boards, and Separator Boards.
Most of us prefer buying cake boards made from cardboard just because they are cheap. But, bakers do you know transporting your effort on these boards can be really risky. Cardboards have the ability to absorb and retain moisture which can make them really flimsy.
I personally prefer the cake boards made out of MDF. They are sturdy, reliable, can hold shape, easy for transportation and can also be used for oversized cakes like drum boards. Depending on the budget that the client has allocated I sometimes also graduate to using drum boards. I really like using drum boards because there are so many things that I can try doing to decorate my drum boards giving my cake some finer details, like attaching ribbons, using designer contact sheet, etc. depending on the theme. But then I have to be prepared for shelling out some extra bucks out of my profit margin.
